Established in 2010, the prize recognises up-and-coming artists and potential future Tui winners. Past Critics’ Choice Prize nominees include Kimbra and The Naked and Famous.
The three 2016 contenders perform a live showcase at The Tuning Fork in Auckland on Wednesday 2 November before the prize recipient is announced on the night.
The Critics’ Choice Prize Showcase recognises an artist that a panel of top music industry critics believe is on track to becoming a Kiwi music success story and potentially a future Tui winner.
All New Zealand artists are eligible, provided they have not previously been a finalist for any New Zealand Music Award (excluding Artisan Awards) or a finalist in the Critics’ Choice Prize; or they have had an album or single appear in the Official New Zealand Music Chart Top 40 prior to the eligibility period.
The night contains three 30 minute performances by each of the shortlisted artists. After all three acts have performed the winner will be announced.
