6.         Breakthrough Artist of the Year

7.         Best Rock Album*

8.         Best Pop Album*

9.         Best Alternative Album*

10.        Best Urban / Hip Hop Album*

11.        Best Roots Album*

12.        Best Electronica Album*

13.        Best Music Video

14.        Best Maori Album

15.        Best Gospel / Christian Album*

16.        Best Classical Album*

17.        International Achievement Award

* These categories are genre awards

Five finalists for Album of the Year and Single of the Year, and three finalists for the remaining award categories are announced at the Finalists Announcement / Technical Awards in Auckland on Thursday 16 October, 2014.

The International Achievement award is judged by the Recorded Music NZ board and is awarded only at the board’s discretion. No finalists will be announced for this category. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 20 November, 2014.

Technical Award Categories



  1. Best Producer

  2. Best Engineer

  3. Best Album Cover


The winners of the Technical Awards for Best Producer, Best Engineer and Best Album Cover are also announced at the Finalists Announcement / Technical Awards in Auckland on Thursday 16 October, 2014.

Additional Categories (Nominations not Accepted)


No finalists are announced for the Highest Selling NZ Single, Highest Selling NZ Album or the Radio Airplay Record Awards. The finalists and winners of these awards are determined by data supplied by the Official New Zealand Music Charts compiler. Nominations are not required and no finalists will be announced for these three awards.

The Legacy Award is presented at the Recorded Music NZ board’s discretion. The recipient will be announced at the Finalists Announcement / Technical Awards in Auckland on Thursday 16 October and the award presented at the awards ceremony Thursday 20 November, 2014. Nominations are not required for this award.

Awarded at Separate Functions Throughout the Year


The following Tui winners, awarded at separate functions throughout the year, will be acknowledged as part of the awards ceremony on Thursday 20 November, 2014:

  • Best Folk Album

  • Best Jazz Album

  • Best Pacific Music Album

  • Best Country Music Album

  • Best Children’s Music Album

  • Best Producer

  • Best Engineer, and

  • Best Album Cover
